It's that time for Try-Outs!

Hello Lakeside Families –

Thanks to the almost 100 players who came out to our Pre-Evaluation Workout on Saturday.  It was great to see the boys and girls out there ready for baseball season to get going.  The next big event on the calendar is Player Evaluations this upcoming weekend, 1/20-1/21.  Logistics and reporting times are below, but first a few comments and requests regarding Evaluations.

  1. Tryouts are only for the AA, AAA and Majors divisions.  Remember that players are not trying out for a particular division.  Rather, the draft sorts out which division players go to.  There are certain age minimums and maximums per division that are enforced, but otherwise players go to the division that is best suited for their abilities and that will allow for a positive experience.  Players that are not drafted into AA will automatically be placed on a team in the Farm (Single A) Division.  Only players Little League age 8 and above are eligible for AA, so players 7 and younger will not be trying out.  If your player is Little League age 8 or below and you prefer they play in Farm, simply do not come to tryouts.
  2. Evaluations can be stressful for the players.  Please do not put extra pressure on them to perform at Evaluations, or attempt to coach your player from behind the fence (or during the season for that matter, but that will be a separate e-mail).  We will have areas that are off limits to parents so the players can play and the coaches can evaluate.  We ask that you check your player in, release them to the warmup area, and watch them tryout from the other side of the glass.  For the 8/9 year olds if they need your help getting warmed up you may join them in the warmup area.  Please do not be that parent that tries to work their way into earshot or view of your player so you can coach them along.  If they need that at this point then perhaps they are not ready to move to AA.
  3. We will be moving a lot of kids through evaluations in a short amount of time to be respectful of your schedule.  In order for us to do that, we need you to be on time and ready to play at your assigned reporting time.
  4. We booked an indoor arena to avoid any possible weather delays for Evaluations, and provided this date to all of last year’s players several months ago to avoid any possible schedule conflicts.  As such this will be our only weekend of tryouts.  Please make every effort to be there.  If you cannot make tryouts you may have to be placed in a division at the discretion of the Player Agent.
